Hidden between the golden brick towers of Williams Dormitory (1969, Hobart Wagener), Boulder's only high rise, and a pretentious new mansion for the university president lies this group of three experimental houses by CU environmental design professor Dennis Holloway and Navajo graduate students. It includes a traditional domed hogan, a hogan with a heat-collecting sunroom, and a hogan attached to what looks like a conventional solar house. The project explores the possibilities of developing new, energy-efficient housing from traditional forms. Under provisions of the 1987 Indian Housing Act, Navajo students lived in the houses and reported on their experience and on the buildings' performance.
