Rebuilt after the town fire of 1814, the small Archer Cottage is the sole above-ground remnant of Yorktown's lower town, a string of waterfront buildings built below the marl cliffs. It was substantially restored in the 1950s, but its ballast stone foundations survive from an earlier time.
