The Neo-Jeffersonian main structure, a two-story center block with lower wings, was designed by the architect who founded the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) in 1933–1934. Peterson went on to a noted career as a historian and preservationist. The CCC provided labor to construct the structure.
