On the same block as the Gross Building, the Valentine Building occupies the oblique-angled corner of Front and Seward streets. Emery Valentine, a jeweler who served six terms as mayor, built the first part of the building on Seward Street in 1904; when it was extended to wrap around the corner to Front Street in 1913, it doubled in size. Two stories on a steeply sloping site, the building has a partial mezzanine level and plate-glass windows. On the second level, the windows are separated by fluted pilasters; above them, a modillioned cornice crowns a deep entablature with a denticulated architrave. On the interior, the original ornamented ceiling is exposed in the corner store, while the rest of the building still has drop ceilings.
