The commercial center of this small, river valley town, where few buildings rise above two stories, is visually dominated by this five-story brick and limestone bank. Thompson made the most of the bank’s narrow Broadway Street frontage by grandly emphasizing the round-arched main entrance. It is flanked by columns and recessed between wide pilasters and a prominent entablature inscribed with the bank’s name, all in limestone. Each of the four upper floors above the entrance is articulated by trios of double-hung windows; on the long side wall the windows are paired. The top floor deviates from the lower classicism to introduce Craftsman-like details in the playful pattern of brick and limestone.
