The handsome, block-square banking complex consists of a six-story office slab and a low, glass-walled banking pavilion. Built for the First National Bank of Conroe, it registers the seismic changes that suburbanization wrought on Conroe. Local institutions, such as its banks, were submerged into larger corporate networks that did not see a downtown location as an advantage. Within a quarter century of its construction the bank became Conroe's City Hall, its transfer to public ownership evident in the less than pristine condition with which it is maintained.
