The well-proportioned residence with partial second-floor balcony is a large-scale rendition of a Rio Grande City–type cottage that links it to the New Orleans–influenced architecture of Brownsville and Matamoros. Located near the early commercial hub of the city, the gabled, two-story brick dwelling with square-end, high parapet walls that slope to include a rear wing is similar to the demolished house of Henry Clay Davis.
