This quartet of late-nineteenth-century commercial buildings abuts the Spanish Governor's Palace (
SA47) to form the western side of Military Plaza. The two limestone buildings at the southern end of the block are the earliest, with the more richly detailed brick buildings to the north being built after a major fire in 1891. In spite of the fact that the entire row was used by the Vogel firm for much of the twentieth century, the earlier owner's names were not removed from the cornices.
