This majestic Romanesque Revival building is highlighted with a tall, hipped roof and a clock tower set off-center to allow for a central atrium. Similar to the courthouses Gordon designed for Erath and Victoria (
VI1) counties in 1892, this courthouse has axial entrances rather than the signature corner entrances he developed a few years later. The combined use of smooth-faced and rock-faced limestone and red sandstone creates a deeply textured, polychromatic facade. An interior atrium courtyard, now with a glass roof, is an unusual feature for a Texas courthouse. The courthouse was restored in 2005 by Volz and Associates with funding from the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program.
