This three-story, Classical Revival building is the fourth courthouse to occupy the square. The cruciform plan, typical of county courthouses for more than a century, rises from a rusticated limestone base. Stone columns with Composite capitals support the pediment of the monumental entrance portico. The outer bays have smaller segmental-arched pediments. In strong contrast to the buff brick walls, the pediments, dome, and cornice are clad in copper. The courthouse is a near twin to Fort Bend County Courthouse (
AS28), also designed by Page in 1909.
