Although this two-story retail building possesses the energy of a Leffland design, it is attributed to local builder Bontrager. The building is faced with textured stucco meant to appear like rusticated stone blocks. Arches above the first- and second-story windows and the second-story sill-level belt course, and the parapets are of red brick, which contrasts with the weathered grays of the rest of the building. Display windows retain leaded transom panels. An inset bay at the Commerce and 4th streets corner accommodates a corner entrance. Diagonally across the intersection from the Hill Building is a hipped-roof brick gasoline service station from the 1920s at 328 Commerce Street.
