Located deep within the Monongahela National Forest, these three cabins were built to house Forest Service personnel, but are now rented to vacationers. Forest ranger Don Gaudineer, who modeled his work on examples shown in the 1920s publication The Real Log Cabin, designed and built the central cabin. Intentionally rustic, the cabin is constructed of round spruce logs, fitted directly onto one another with no chinking and with ax-cut ends extending far beyond the corners. CCC cadets constructed two smaller, frame cabins in 1939. Although the cadets used standard Forest Service plans, they finished the clapboards with wavy edges to emulate the rusticity of Gaudineer's work.
