1935–1942. North side of WV 28, 2 miles northeast of the intersection with U.S. 250 at Thornwood

This rare surviving CCC camp contains several one-story, frame barracks and the original polygonal camp exchange booth—similar to a railroad ticket window—which is preserved in the recreation building. First set up in 1933 with tents, Camp Thornwood was reestablished in 1935 with two permanent wooden barracks. The camp closed in 1942, but is now again in use. The Pocahontas County 4-H program has used it for summer camp since 1944, and the National Youth Science Camp has been here since 1963.
