Well positioned at one of Beverly's main crossroads, this country store served at various times as post office, newspaper office, and Civil War commissary. The main entrance centers the first floor of the gable-ended brick facade on Main Street. The largely original interior consists of a large front room and a smaller rear chamber, both heated by corner fireplaces that share a single chimney. An underground vault, lined in stone and entered through a trapdoor in the back room, remains. In 1894 an addition was built to the north. In 1973 the Randolph County Historical Society purchased the store and has subsequently adapted it as a museum and headquarters. A reconstructed schoolhouse and log cabin, both relocated from their original sites, are behind the store.
