This exemplary Greek Revival church has a tall doorway protected by a tetrastyle Ionic portico. To either side of the portico, the end walls of the facade are enriched with brick pilasters framing recessed panels. A one-stage belfry, surmounted by a later spire, was added in 1907. The church served as a hospital for both Confederate and Union wounded and remained—alone of Charles Town's churches—undamaged throughout the Civil War. The Greek Revival manse next door, at the northwest corner of East Washington and North Mildred streets, was built in 1854.
