1991–1995. I-79, exit 124, north of Bridgeport

Served by its own interstate interchange, this 500,000-square-foot complex, built at a cost of $200 million, is another instance of U.S. senator Robert Byrd's largesse to his constituents. Located on the site of a former strip mine, the three-story structure contains five identical modules and a great deal of glazing in the atria that connect them. The center, one of Harrison County's largest employers, is off limits to tourists. Its visitor center, designed as part of the complex, has yet to open.
