The design of this modern church was influenced by its location at one of the busiest intersections in South Hills. According to its Cincinnati architects, the building is “an elevated parasol surrounded by massive, textured masonry walls to shield against the intrusions presented by the three surrounding roadways.” Stone for the retaining wall facing Bridge Street was taken from the 1895 church that occupied the site. At the intersection of the solid brick walls of the sanctuary and the butterfly roof, a narrow band of glazing provides light to the interior and is high enough to prevent visual distractions. The design of the openwork metal spire has caused some parishioners to dub it a transmitter for “radio station WGOD.”
