Old Lunenburg County Public Library

Old Lunenburg County Public Library Virginia Department of Historic Resources
1938, Claiborne and Taylor. West of the court-house, Courthouse Rd.

This meticulously crafted library donated by David K. E. Bruce is entered through a dainty portico sheltering the entrance of the one-and-a-half-story brick building. Brick quoins mark the corners, a modillion cornice edges the slate roof with its three gabled dormers, and interior chimneys spring from its clipped corners. A modest side entrance leads to the segregated reading room originally designated for African Americans. For lack of sufficient library use, the building is now occupied by county government.
