The school is one of Virginia's many Georgian Revival high schools built in the era of school consolidation. It was funded by the Public Works Administration (PWA). The large two-and-a-half-story brick building has a twelve-bay center section that resembles a large house and is flanked by lower, four-bay wings and pedimented end pavilions. Entrance is through double doors flanked by double-height pilasters supporting a pediment ornamented with a garland and surmounted by the gable roof's hexagonal cupola.
