Diagonally opposite the Josiah Baker House is the three-story, three-bay Sweet House, the home of a builder responsible for other houses in the area. This demure version of the Italianate palazzo in wood, flushboarded and quoined in front and clapboarded on all other sides, which conveniently appears grown up, in stone, around the corner in the Tully Bowen House (
PR98). Its windows crowd the tiny front. Again handsomely detailed, they are more original than their Bowen counterparts. The window itself is framed in an Italianate molding, with sills and pediments projecting on brackets below and above, the pediments lifted as independent entities off their frames.
