Allen Mason Thomas House

1825, Jabez Bullock, builder. 1927, restoration, Norman M. Isham. 56 Main St.

Having been heavily Victorianized, this Greek Revival house was restored by Isham for R. G. Clark, heir to the Singer sewing machine fortune. The Clarks had previously been involved in restoration work at Cooperstown, New York. Isham probably added or heightened the monitor and enhanced the parapet and front portico. (No other house on Main Street boasts any of these features.) The east porch, with its extraordinary shaped-plank chairs, is also his work, as, probably, is the connecting fence.
