John Tripp House

Early 18th century. 88 Washington St.

This is one of only two stone-enders known to exist in Newport; the other is the Elder John Bliss House (before 1715), at 2 Wilbur Avenue. The Tripp House in fact is not properly a Newport house; it was moved from Manton Avenue in Providence and reconstructed by its owners. The cobbled projection of a beehive oven from the exposed masonry wall is unusual.
