A five-story mill built of stucco-covered rubble masonry, with red granite quoining, brick window frames, and granite window sills, this is an elaborated version of the nearby Crompton Mill, built by the same firm at roughly the same time. It was later elaborated by a more sculptural tower and ornamental frames for more grandly scaled windows. Unfortunately, most of the openings have been walled over. As in the Crompton Mill, the glory of this factory is in its tower. Here rounded shoulders meld into the forcefully scaled and sculptural belfry with giant arched openings. The “back wall” along the river is impressive in its own right, with another, more modest but well-proportioned tower. The machinery for the mill gates to the dam exit across Laurel Avenue is exceptionally well preserved.
