Although the tower of Mill No. 1 has lost its Greek Revival belfry and the windows have been badly altered, this sizable four-story granite mill, with a continuous monitor to make a fifth story under the roof, is impressive in scale and workmanship and is beautifully maintained. At the time of its building, it was the largest mill in the state—and the largest Greek Revival structure by far. The same master mason built the smaller Mill No. 2—three stories with a simple, low-pitched gable roof but no tower—which now serves for storage. Stone for both mills came from a company-owned quarry in Oneco, Connecticut. A portion of the mill race behind the building, edged in woods (not readily accessible) remains in excellent condition.
