The building history of this Gothic cottage is hardly less picturesque than its furiously gabled roofline. It was originally built as a summer residence for Alexander Perry and his brother-in-law Charles Bogart, but when the two families fell out, Renwick himself stepped in and acquired the property. After passing through various hands, including those of the brother of Bessie Van Wickle, the owner of Blithewold, it returned at last to the Perry family in 1961. Although it was extended significantly in the 1920s, these additions were in the rambling and relaxed spirit of Renwick's original essay.
