D. George Dery came to Catasauqua in 1897 to make his fortune in textiles. By World War I he owned fifteen mills in Pennsylvania, employing 4,000 people. This, his first silk mill, is a three-story brick L-shaped structure articulated by tall wood-framed windows on all three floors recessed between brick piers. On the wing parallel to Race Street a gabled monitor runs the length of the building, lighting the top floor. The mill ceased operation in 1923 and was adapted for apartments, but its exterior appearance is essentially unaltered.
