The Cathedral of Sts. Peter and Paul in Philadelphia (
PH118) established the Roman Renaissance as the preferred style for Pennsylvania's Catholic cathedrals and it is emulated here. Philadelphia architect Lovatt used limestone details to accent the facade's rough granite blocks. Its copper-clad dome relates to the granite capitol with its green-tiled dome farther along State Street.
