The New York City firm of Mowbray and Uffinger specialized in banks, designing such buildings as the People's Trust Company in Brooklyn, New York (1906), and both the former Butler County National Bank (
BU2) and the Altoona Trust Building (
BL13). Contemporary with the adjacent courthouse, the Somerset Trust Company Bank is a handsome Beaux-Arts building, too. A pair of Tuscan columns and a foliate ornamented pediment, both of Indiana limestone, outline the double-height entrance portico. One of the building's distinguishing features is the copper and glass dome that originally lit the main banking room before the building was converted to offices and a full second floor was added.
