Louis M. Mowbray and Justin M. Uffinger of New York City designed many banks in western Pennsylvania, in addition to their numerous New York commissions. They specialized in a classical style, using the base-shaft-capital formula for their high-rise banks, as they did here for Altoona Trust. After being in business for only one year, the bank commissioned this building and leased the offices above. This round-cornered building's first story is sheathed in Bedford limestone highlighted by the granite columns flanking the corner entrance. In contrast to the red brick typically used in Altoona at the time, the upper four stories are of gray Pompeiian bricks.
