This tiny station, with its passenger platform and adjoining baggage house, is all that remains of the Frank Furness legacy in Pittsburgh. Time has eliminated his bank on 4th Avenue, the elaborate Baltimore and Ohio (B&O) Terminal by the Smithfield Street Bridge, and two suburban railroad stations. The Edgewood station is a prosaic work, small scaled and utilitarian, with a hipped roof, but nonetheless showing an aging Furness still capable of wringing expression from brick and shingle. An 1876 example of his work in western Pennsylvania is the Fox Mansion Carriage House in Clarion County (CL25).
