This handsome Classical Revival building designed by a Minneapolis firm was associated with the Minneapolis-based Pence automobile sales showrooms, a major regional distributor of, primarily, Buick cars. The ghostly remains of a sign on the side wall cornice acknowledges this. Harry Pence was one of the nation’s largest sellers of Buicks. Built of slightly oversized hard-fired glazed brick, with exceptionally fine buttered mortar joints, cream-colored glazed terra-cotta trim, and a pressed-metal cornice, the showroom is inspired by the commercial version of the Prairie Style that is also associated with other important work for the Pence Company in Minneapolis. The Pence Building and three smaller buildings to the west were renovated in 2012 for use as the Family Healthcare Center.
