The giant milk bottle (1934; 1977 relocated here by the H. P. Hood Dairy Company) alongside Museum Wharf provides an easy draw to this museum, which is situated on a raised boardwalk. The Children's Museum converted a Boston Wharf Company woolens warehouse and achieved flexible space; a glass and metal cage housing the elevator enlivens its severe brick facade. A straightforward transformation reveals the heavy timber structure and metal beams, the whole enhanced by didactic, inventively displayed exhibits. Permanent and changing exhibitions allow children (and their parents) to experience themed architectural spaces, such as grandmother's attic and a traditional Japanese house.
