Rows of three-, four-, and five-story apartment blocks line the two streets that bisect Audubon Circle. Several were designed by Benjamin Fox, an architect from Britain whose firm, the Boston Construction Company, specialized in this type of construction. This company typically built blocks of three stories with one spacious residential unit on each floor and a separate entrance for each unit. Designed for an upper-middle-class clientele, Fox's residential blocks invariably employ the traditional Boston bowfront, but are elegantly detailed on the principal facades using pressed brick and either limestone or quarry-faced sandstone trim. Here Benjamin Fox designed 455–457 Park Drive and 459–461 Park Drive both 1900 (461 demolished, 2003), and Strathcona at 503 Park Drive and Audubon Terrace at 504 Park Drive, built in 1903. Other examples can be found in Brookline on Harvard and Washington streets.
