1939, E. Richard Cone. 655 N.E. 7th St.

The Saint Paul, Minnesota, architect E. Richard Cone provided his client with the latest image in this Streamline Moderne dwelling. Into the white painted brick walls of the two-story house he has placed a variety of window shapes, ranging from portholes to elongated stepped windows that mirror the internal circular staircase. A feature seldom encountered in Moderne designs is the sloped, exposedsteel roof used over a portion of the house. Another Mason City example of this 1930s Moderne style (more Art Deco than Streamline Moderne) is the Sundell House (1911) at 40 Oak Drive, designed by Frank Pierce.
