The Melson mausoleum brings the design principles of the Prairie architect into clear focus, with no disruption of mundane functional living requirements. Two low masonry slabs hug the center slab, which is slightly higher. Between them is a piece of finely polished granite with the family name on it. This slab sits on a thin, horizontal stone base which projects out and locks into the adjoining slabs. It is all very simple, but visually very impressive.
