The Grant House appears fortresslike with its ornate cast iron window caps and Italianate detailing. One of the largest houses built in the city before the Civil War, it has a massive red brick facade that appears to swallow up the openings. The heavy cornice is of wood. Converted into a hospital in 1908, the building now houses administrative offices for the Medical College of Virginia.
