The theater was restored in 1976 and is now used by the Cedar Rapids Symphony and other performing groups. Its 2,000-seat auditorium with balcony boxes conveys a subdued and restrained classicism, somewhat in the spirit of late eighteenth-century English Adamesque design. Much of the interior wall decoration was seemingly carved out, an illusion created using plaster cast in low and high relief. The luxurious lobby was, according to local tradition, inspired by the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles.
