Masqueray, who designed many of the principal Roman Catholic churches in the Midwest in the teens, has so freely utilized historic sources that it is difficult to pin this building down to one historic precedent. Its round-arched windows and its gabled corbeling draw it into the Romanesque; but its bracketed roof and peculiarly small-scaled tower are not so easy to assign. As with many public buildings in Cedar Rapids, substantial planting of trees would add greatly to the building and its relationship to the adjoining streets.
