In a city with a modicum of extant Art Deco, the three aluminum doors of the Central Fire Station catch the eye. The work of California Artistic Metal and Wire Company of San Francisco elevates an otherwise reserved, reinforced-concrete, Great Depression–era building. The flat-roofed building is further embellished by a side balcony with geometric Art Deco designs and a decorative band near the roofline, which reiterates the octagonal Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) motif of the doors.
