Presenting a classical dignity within a casual open-air environment, this eight-story resort is a sedate expression of affluence. Massive columns, blue tile roofs, shouldered arches, coffered ceilings, flowing lanai, marble floors, travertine-framed openings, brown marble accents, and a grand staircase are gracefully blended here. A central courtyard, the focal point of the pavilion plan, expands and complements the classical atmosphere with its urn fountains, formal parterre, and royal palms. An obligatory “natural” waterfall is off to one corner of the pool area, coyly camouflaging the restrooms. Art on the fifteen-acre resort plays a relatively subdued role. Pieces such as Hampton Hall's paradise-invoking mural behind the reception desk and the soaring bronze humpback whale of Richard Stiers adjoining the croquet court and putting green serve as occasional accents rather than a compelling theme.
