The cemetery here originated with a 4.5-acre grant by Pennsylvania Governor Thomas Penn to Reverend James Martin in 1737 and served a church already standing at that time. In its restrained, geometric simplicity, the current shingled frame sanctuary represents the unpretentious Greek Revival popular for religious structures downstate. A pedimented front gable stands above a small Doric porch. Three big windows along each side light the interior, which is distinguished by unusual, shallow-V-shaped pews and a gallery, a feature scarce today in the county. Early kerosene lamps were later converted to electricity.
