In the 1870s, the town's newly established Odd Fellows Lodge sold stock to build a brick meetinghouse, erected by contractor A. E. Stiner. The three floors, under a gable roof with brackets, still serve their original functions: first floor for retail, second floor a community space, and third floor for IOOF meetings. Dalton's country store was housed here starting in 1877; its successor, Smith's (1931–1966), is remembered for its coal stove, old coffee grinder, dark wooden shelves, and welcoming frame porch. Diagonally across the street stands another reminder of Centreville's late-nineteenth-century prosperity, the mansard-roofed Chandler-Dixon-Frederick House (1880; 5714 Kennett Pike).
