Kalorama Road and Circle (
SK33–
SK41) form the northern boundary of this district, which follows a high ridge of land before it descends to Rock Creek Park, a particularly desirable residential area that was developed primarily in the 1920s. Many of the homes were speculative ventures by a series of developers and builder-architects. Whelan's exploded Georgian Revival house, although constructed in coursed rubble stone, suggests southern American Georgian prototypes due to its hip roof and very fine swan's neck pedimented doorway. It was designed as part of a series of brick and fieldstone houses for the developer Malcolm McConihe.
