Belle Isle Addition

Various dates. Georgia, N. Wabash, and N. Erie sts.

This early-twentieth-century residential development lies near the northern tip of Wheeling Island and surrounds the triangular Belle Isle Park. American Foursquares and narrow gable-fronted houses predominate in closely spaced groupings. Although most of the houses are wood frame, most have tall masonry foundations, evidence of the architectural adaptations necessary for survival in this flood-prone area.
