This much altered building, part log, part frame, but now encased in vinyl siding, was once the home of Patrick Gass, last surviving member of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Described by Clark as “a master carpenter and a master of profanity,” Gass published the first report of the journey in 1807, breaking an agreement that members of the expedition had made not to print memoirs until after the official report was made. He died in 1870 at age ninety-nine.
