This row of workers' houses was convenient to the rail yard and adjacent industrial area west of lower Maple Street. It features seven shed-roof entrance porches, two-over-two rectangular windows, bracketed eaves, shed dormers, and an outsized mansard roof clad in imbricated and clipped slates in red and gray. Each segment of the striking roof has a different design of alternating bands and geometric patterns. This polychromatic display was an apt advertisement for the work of its owner, contractor and slater Horace Smith, who lived next door.
