This high rise of thirteen stories plus terraced penthouse is one of the city's oldest skyscrapers. Its New York City architects, who specialized in tall buildings, chose as their associate an unlikely local architect, W. Duncan Lee. Lee specialized in residential work and apparently never capitalized on this experience, never designing another high-rise building. Like many early skyscrapers, it has a clearly delineated division of base, shaft, and crown. The peculiar and clumsily detailed portico that extends over the Main Street sidewalk is a later addition.
