The entire 200 block of Prince Street is collectively known as Gentry Row because of the eminence of the early residents. This large brick double house on the corner of Prince and Lee streets was originally a single dwelling owned by Robert Hooe, Alexandria's first mayor. Washington “dined at Colo. Hooe's” on several occasions. The original dining-room woodwork—Georgian in style—is on display in the St. Louis Art Museum. It was converted into a double house c. 1910.
