With its tall side tower, the Wulff House stands out at the head of the street, looking toward downtown. This Italianate house built by an unidentified builder-architect is of random-sized limestone blocks that were never covered by stucco. Perhaps in response to the proximity of the river, the main level is placed above a raised basement and is reached by a short staircase. The large wooden veranda on the east side of the house marks the location of the parlor space within. While not a house museum and not furnished as one, it is accessible to the public as the headquarters of the San Antonio Conservation Society since 1975. Anton Wulff was a commission merchant and operated his business on Military Plaza.
