The most celebrated house in San Antonio by this firm, the Steves residence of Mexican colonial style hides behind high walls. The carved stone entrance door frame, purchased in Mexico, provides a clue as to what lies within. Designed by Chris Carson, the plan of the one-story house is organized around a one-hundred-foot-long gallery to which are joined a series of wings. Extensive use was made of tile vaults on the interior, which were constructed by Mexican masons. Marshall Steves was the president of Steves Sash and Door.
